Adventures with the Presunkas!
This week Mom and Dad were thrilled to welcome the Presunka’s on Two Captains. We spent a couple rolly nights back at Carlise Bay, enjoyed the beaches of Jolly Harbor as we waited for high winds and weather to pass and explored Nelson’s Dockyard the UNESCO World Heritage site. Peter lead the group on a foodie adventure exploring the fruits of the island including delicious local melon, sugar apple, Spondias dulcis called locally a “golden apple”, and any other local fruit he could get his hands on. He searched out Fungie to no avail which is an Antiguan specialty made from cornmeal.
While the conditions for snorkeling in Carlisle Bay were not ideal this trip, the group made the best of it and Mom even spotted an Eel which she captured on the GoPro. The video quality isn’t great because the seas were stirred up, but our good friend who is a marine biologist, agrees that it appears to be in the Morey Eel family. Super cool!
We enjoyed some amazing sunsets, lots of laughs, and a couple lovely sails. The Presunka’s were champs and Peter somehow managed multiple seasickness patches without so much as a yawn. I got plenty of attention although Carol likes to say she’s not a dog person , I think she was kind of into me.
Oh, and because work never ceases while cruising, Peter helped Dad replace our old 6hp dinghy engine with our new 20hp engine. Can’t wait to take it on its maiden voyage!
Then it was time to return California and oh boy, can the process can be complicated. Mom is lucky to have support from the Salty Dawg network and was able to get an appointment the day of our departure with the Antiguan Department of Agriculture Veterinary and Livestock team. All the ladies in the office was fantastic and helpful. We were able to procure an export permit needed for the airline and a multi-entry import license so I can come back to the island after the holiday. Upon re-entry into the US at the Miami International Airport, we then had to produce our USDA documentation. It is quite a process managing international import/exportation of a pet, but Mom and Dad say I’m worth it. I agree.
